Westfield High School Free Web Clinic Seeks Website Clients

The Westfield High School Free Web Clinic is looking for two to three more clients for its upcoming spring term. This initiative is designed for small businesses and community organizations that want to either create a new website or refresh an existing one.

Details About the Free Web Clinic

Bram Moreinis, a teacher at Westfield High School, oversees the Free Web Clinic. He mentions that this program allows web development students to gain real-world experience by designing websites for local organizations. Currently, he has six teams of students ready to take on new projects.

Who Can Apply for Website Design?

The Free Web Clinic is open to:

• New businesses that need a website.
• Organizations with outdated websites.
• Groups whose website creators are no longer available.

To apply, interested parties can fill out a free consult form on the clinic’s website.

The Website Development Process

The website design process starts in January. Students will assist clients in identifying their website needs through “pre-consult” forms. By early February, teams will be matched with clients for a discovery meeting.

Timeline of the Project

• January: Identify needs in pre-consult forms.
• February: Teams meet with clients to discuss project details.
• February to March: Create a scope of work and design process.
• March to April: Complete design documents, including site maps and layouts.
• April to May: Develop content and configure website functions.
• May to June: Conduct Alpha and Beta testing with clients.
• June: Finalize the website and transfer hosting.

After the project ends, students are also available for ongoing support for a small fee.

Community Engagement and Future Plans

Moreinis, who has been teaching at Westfield High School for three years, has a passion for his community. He appreciates the closeness and support among residents. His dedication extends beyond the clinic, as he is also planning a Westfield Hackathon.

About the Westfield Hackathon

This event aims to bring together coders from different schools for a weekend of coding and collaboration. Moreinis believes hackathons are a great way to build relationships and share knowledge among students.

“It’s a communal, fun activity that helps everyone finish their projects,” he says.
