Drone Technology Helps Rescue Lost Dog Abbie in New Jersey

In New Jersey, a local search and rescue team used drones to find a lost dog named Abbie. This Golden Retriever mix went missing while on a trip from South Carolina to New England. Thanks to the efforts of the USAR Drone Team, Abbie is now safe after running over 25 miles along the New Jersey Turnpike.

Background on Abbie’s Journey

Abbie was one of several dogs being transported by Final Victory Animal Rescue. These dogs were on their way to be adopted by loving families in New England. During a stop at the Joyce Kilmer rest stop, Abbie got away while the dogs were taking a bathroom break. Luckily, she had an AirTag, which helped locate her.

Search Efforts for Abbie

Final Victory Animal Rescue worked hard to find Abbie. Their team coordinated the search from over 10 hours away. They asked for help and continued to support the efforts on Saturday. The USAR Drone Team used thermal imaging from a drone to search for her.

Rescue Operations Involving Drones

The USAR Drone Team played a crucial role in finding Abbie. They successfully located her and worked with local authorities, including the Woodbridge Animal Control and the Woodbridge Police Department. A well-planned strategy was important to keep Abbie from running back toward the busy New Jersey Turnpike.

Successful Rescue and Abbie’s Current Condition

Abbie was rescued safely and became the 123rd dog saved by the USAR Drone Team. Right now, she is being cared for at the Tri-State Veterinary Hospital in Woodbridge. Abbie has a hip injury and some road rash, and she is being evaluated by veterinarians for further treatment.
