Schulhoff runs a platform that focuses on prompt engineering and organizes AI red-teaming hackathons, where participants test AI systems for security vulnerabilities.

Unlike traditional software, AI can be influenced through language and indirect instructions. Schulhoff believes that people who understand both AI security and cybersecurity will be better equipped to respond if an AI model is tricked into creating harmful code. For instance, they would run any suspicious code in a safe container to prevent it from affecting other parts of the system.

Schulhoff sees the overlap of AI security and traditional cybersecurity as a promising area for job growth in the future. He mentioned that many startups in AI security claim to provide protective measures, but these claims can be misleading. “That’s a complete lie,” he stated, adding that many of these guardrail solutions won’t catch every manipulation of AI systems.
